Louisville’s Kevin Ware breaks leg trying to block shot [Video]

According to the LA Times, Louisville guard Kevin Ware has a broken right leg after landing awkwardly when he tried to block a shot by Duke guard Tyler Thornton.

Replays showed that Ware’s lower right leg appears to snap as he lands from a lengthy leap to contest the shot. A video of the play is attached below (warning, images are graphic).

The injury occurred with 6:33 left in the first half. Thornton’s shot was good, cutting Louisville’s lead to 21-20 at the time. Louisville was leading at the half, 35-32.

The game was delayed almost 10 minutes as trainers wrapped Ware’s lower right leg, put him on a backboard and lifted him onto a stretcher to be taken off the court.

A few of Ware’s teammates fell to the floor at the sight of his leg, while others on the bench turned away from where he had fallen only feet from the sideline.

Louisville Coach Rick Pitino gathered the Cardinals near midcourt during the delay. Ware asked Pitino to bring his teammates over to him so he could have a word with them before he left for the hospital.

Former NFL quarterback Joe Theismann, who had a leg broken during a nationally televised game while playing for the Washington Redskins, sent a tweet to Ware. “Watching Duke/Louisville my heart goes out to Kevin Ware,” he said via Twitter.

Kim Kardashian Vows that Her (and Kanye’s) Kid Won’t See Color

So now that Kanye West and Kim Kardashian are going to have what the world will consider as a black baby, the mother-to-be says their child won’t see color.

The bottom line is, the kid is going to grow up with a bit of an identity crisis on its hands, but Kim and Kanye plan to address it right away with some diversity tactics.

“Obviously you want your children, for me, to travel the world and experience different races and different cultures everywhere so I think that would be something that is important to me to give as much information as I could,” Kim said.

Kim said she’s also gotten some tips from some of her pals.

“I have a lot of friends that are all different nationalities and their children are bi-racial, so they have kind of talked to me a little bit about it and what to expect and what not to expect,” she continued. “But I think that the most important thing is, how I would want to raise my children, is to just not see color.”

The bottom line is, the kid will have no choice but to see color because he or she will no doubt experience it.

iVillage writer Amanda Rodriguez writes in her article “Five Things Parents of Biracial Kids Should Know,” that mixed kids always see color. It’s just a matter of finding a place to fit.

Aaron Shannon Jr.: Mistrial Declared In Halloween Killing Of 5-Year-Old In Spider-Man Costume [VIDEO]

The trial of Leonard Hall Jr., 21, charged with murder and attempted murder in the Halloween shooting death of 5-year-old Aaron Shannon Jr. ended in mistrial Friday, reports KTLA.com.

Young Aaron was posing in his Spider-Man costume in his South Los Angeles backyard when Hall and Marcus Denson, then 18, both members of the Kitchen Crips Gang, came onto his block and allegedly opened fire. They were allegedly looking to retaliate for a rival shooting by randomly killing someone.

Aaron was shot in the back of head and died the next day. His grandfather and uncle were also wounded.

After two days of deliberations, the jury was locked at 9-3 in favor of finding Hall guilty.

Denson pleaded guilty to two counts of attempted murder, one count of manslaughter and testified against Hall, KTLA reports. He is scheduled to be sentenced on May 17.

Chris Brown Aims At Drake On Young Jeezy’s ‘R.I.P. (Remix)’

It’d be an understatement to say that Chris Brown and Drake have a strained relationship after that bottle throwing incident last summer. Even though Brown recently admitted that he thinks Drake’s “music’s still hot,” the two continue to throw jabs at each other. The latest comes on Young Jeezy’s “R.I.P. (remix)” where Breezy seems to be aiming directly at the Toronto rapper.

“Dearly departed, I bought a plane I departed/ And if you started from the bottom, go on and come out the closet,” he spits, alluding to Drake’s recent single “Started From The Bottom.”

This certainly isn’t the first shot though. On a freestyle over Keef’s “I Don’t Like” last summer, Brown threw out these lines, “They throwing bottles, I’m throwing models. OVO you overdose/ Screaming YOLO, no I live twice,” while Drake seemed to retaliate on his “Enough Said” single with Aaliyah, rapping, “Running through the city with n—as I’d give a kidney/ Selling under 150, you n—as gotta be kidding.”

When Drake dropped his latest track “5AM in Toronto,” fans also interpreted “Sinatra style I’m just being frank with ya/ I mean, where you think she’s at where when she ain’t with ya,” as another jab at Brown, who decided to skip the verses and just diss Drake openly during a recent show in LA, telling the crowd, “F— Drake!”

Tyler Perry’s ‘Temptation’ Performing Nicely: $22M B.O. Take Estimated

It’s not going to number 1 or even number 2 at the box office. But at number 3 “Tyler Perry’s Temptation: Confessions Of A Marriage Counselor” is looking like another winner for Perry.

And yes, that’s the full, proper title of the film. By the way, “G.I. Joe” Retaliation” is number I and number 2 is “The Croods.”

According to Deadline, the Tyler Perry written and directed erotic thriller’s projections are for a weekend gross of $21.75M which is on the higher side of expectations. The Lionsgate distributed film is reported to have only cost $20 million to make. Here’s more from Deadline:

“If that holds, Temptation will be the highest grossing Perry-directed film in which he did not appear as an actor. Tyler crossdressing as Medea become his biggest films but this could be the 2nd highest grossing non-Madea film. It’s Tyler’s 10th film, and 9th as a director, to open over $20M. Perry also was trying for a more sexualized movie “to freshen the Tyler brand”, according to distributor Lionsgate, thus challenging his dramedy fanbase. True, he risks losing that audience by rebranding his movies or himself as an actor. (Note the weak opening of the recent Alex Cross where he was an actor-for-hire playing the famed detective of James Patterson’s novels.) But it’s hard to argue with the benefits to Perry creatively of not relying on that awful Madea stereotype.” [sic]

We think Deadline is giving Tyler Perry a good ol’ backhanded compliment. On the other hand, they straight up gave Kim Kardashian a spanking for her role.

Meanwhile, director Antoine Fuqua’s “Olympus Has Fallen” came in at number 5, but after 2 weeks in release has already taken in close to $55 million. Number 4 is “The Host” which brought in an estimated $12 million.

BOND DENIED FOR BOY WHO SHOT AND KILLED HIS 72 YEAR OLD GRANDFATHER!

According to the Chicago Sun-Times, Bond was denied Saturday for a Chicago man charged in the shooting death of his grandfather and namesake, 72-year old William Strickland, who was gunned down earlier this month as he left his home in the predawn hours for a kidney dialysis appointment.

The younger, 19-year-old William Strickland was charged late Friday with first-degree murder and armed robbery with a handgun in connection with the shooting death of his grandfather, police said.

He was denied bond when he appeared Saturday in court, according to the Cook County Sheriff’s office website. He is next scheduled to appear in court on Monday. The elder Strickland liked to get to his dialysis appointment early to get it out of the way, neighbors said at the time.

”He went early,” said Theolene Shears, 84. “He said he liked it better so he could get it over with.” Strickland was headed to a Pace paratransit van, and had just made it to the gangway of his home in the 400 block of East 95th Street when two men robbed and shot him several times, police said.

He died several minutes later, just steps from his home, about 4 a.m., authorities said. Neighbors said Strickland, who sometimes walked with a cane, went to dialysis three times a week. Strickland was friendly with the driver of the van, who was there when the shooting happened, said Patrick Wilmot, a spokesman for Pace said at the time.

Family and neighbors said Strickland had recently retired after working for nearly 30 years at a steel mill. ”He (was) a good neighbor, a very nice and congenial, quiet man,” said Shears, who heard three shots. She said “he watched out for the neighborhood” and reported any trouble he saw.

Watch: Brandy Interviews Lauren London + Lauren Talks Parenting w/ Lil Wayne [Video]

Brandy gave everybody lots of laughs when she interviewed fellow castmate Lauren London at premiere party for BET’s The Game in NYC.
We’re not sure if Brandy was giving us ‘interviewer’ or baptist church reverend, but watch the hilarity ensue below!

Did any of you watch the premiere of BET’s The Game? What did you think? Do you think the show can survive without Melanie & Derwin?
In a recent interview with CocoaFab, Lauren London opened up about how she juggles being a mom to her 3-year-old son Cameron and being on set. She also spoke about how important it is to have a peaceful co-parenting situation with Lil Wayne.
Every situation is different, but I really want to create a peaceful environment for my child. I want him to know love and peace and balance. That’s so important to me. I have no reason to dislike anyone or to have any conflict because the most important thing for me is for him to be raised in a peaceful environment where things can be settled. For me, that was just important.

Women’s Group Wants Reebok to Drop Rick Ross over ‘U.O.E.N.O’

Women’s rights activists are calling on Reebok to drop Rick Ross as a spokesman after he appeared to boast about using a date rape drug with a woman in “U.O.E.N.O. (You Ain’t Even Know It).”
Featuring in the single from Rocko, Ross is under fire for the controversial line: “Put molly (slang for pure ecstasy) all in her champagne/ She ain’t even know it/ I took her home and I enjoyed that/ She ain’t even know it.”
The rhyme has already prompted protesters to sign a petition on Change.org in a bid to force Ross to issue a public apology for seemingly glorifying violence against women, but he spoke out against the criticism on Thursday, insisting the uproar was all over “a misunderstanding” because he would never condone rape.
However, Ross failed to apologize, and members of anti-sexism group UltraViolet are now urging Reebok to take a stand and cancel his contract as a celebrity representative.
Nita Chaudhary, co-founder of UltraViolet, says, “We are appalled that Reebok would pay a spokesperson who brags about enjoying drugging and raping a woman.
“Reebok devotes a lot of time, energy and money to marketing to women – and now they are paying a man who is literally bragging about raping us while absurdly insisting it can’t possibly be rape if he doesn’t use the word ‘rape’. Reebok is apparently okay promoting rape culture, but when one out of five women are the victim of an attempted or completed rape, that has consequences.”
The petition has already garnered more than 51,000 signatures within hours of launching online and UltraViolet demonstrators are planning to stage a protest outside Reebok’s headquarters in Boston, Massachusetts next week if the company doesn’t respond to their campaign.

Couple Says ‘I Do’ At Funeral Of Slain Uncle

Is there anything wrong with getting engaged in a Walmart parking lot? Or how about the bride and groom sporting black and gold tees to their wedding and tying the knot at the funeral of the groom’s uncle?

If you’re Reggie Wade and Monique McMillan-Wade, getting hitched in the presence of a dead body just means you’re staying true to the promise made to the man lying in the coffin, reports Philly.com.

Wade’s uncle, Gregory “Chips” Scott (pictured), 55, who was gunned down on Feb. 27 outside of his West Philadelphia home by his own cousin and another unidentified man, had promised to walk Monique, 29, down the aisle for her planned nuptials. Monique’s own father had passed away years earlier and she was so looking forward to having Scott take her dad’s place on her special day.

According to Wade, his family is big on keeping promises so he and his bride decided to uphold the family’s honorable long-held belief system but took it to an entirely bizarre level. Wade told Philly.com, “This was the last time his presence was gonna be here with us, and he promised me,” Wade said. “It’s like I got to live up to my word. We never lie to each other. “

The funeral procession for the slain and much-beloved man was so large, 2,000 people were in attendance, along with several drill teams which resulted in the closing of four city blocks in the “City of Brotherly Love.”

Wade and Monique, who have been together for eight years and have three children together, had originally planned to hold their wedding at a chapel before April. But when Scott got shot, they made the decision to honor him with a funeral that was unique.

The funeral service was four hours. Scott, who was once a young West Philly gangbanger, had turned his life completely around by becoming a cherished community leader and drill master. He was allegedly killed over a longstanding dispute involving James Hiller, 25, and his cousin, James Scott III, 47.  On the day Scott was killed, he went to his mother’s home and told his cousin to stop drinking and to put an end to his alleged drug sales on her porch. James took offense to Scott’s warning and shot him several times in the face.

Towards the end of the funeral service, attendees were taken aback at the announcement of the wedding. “You had some gasps and you had some laughter because folks knew, ‘who else would do this?’” said Caleb Johnson, the service’s presiding minister of Philadelphia’s First Corinthian Baptist Church and the brother of Scott’s widow, Alfreda Johnson-Scott, who spoke with Philly.com.

Wade and Monique, who wore black and gold tees with Scott’s picture plastered across the front, exited their pew and went to stand in front of the casket as Johnson administered their wedding vows. After the ceremony, the couple was overwhelmed by a sea of well-wishers.

Meanwhile, Philadelphia homicide detectives have filed murder charges against James and Hiller for the shooting death of Scott.
