Cali Doc Sentenced To 14 Years Prison Time Over Cancer Cure Scam

LOS ANGELES  — A Los Angeles doctor was sentenced Friday to 14 years in federal prison for bilking patients out of more than $1 million by promising them that an herbal supplement she hawked could cure late-stage cancer and other diseases.

U.S. District Judge Robert Timilin also ordered Dr. Christine Daniel to forfeit $1,277,083. Daniel, 58, was found guilty of 11 counts, including wire fraud, tax evasion and witness tampering in September 2011.

She enticed patients to take her herbal product and charged them as much as $100,000 for a six-month treatment program that she claimed could cure cancer, diabetes and multiple sclerosis, authorities said.

Some of her patients, however, died from complications of cancer within three to six months after taking the supplement. In one case, prosecutors contend a 22-year-old woman who had a highly curable form of neck lymphoma died because she relied on Daniel’s recommendation to avoid radiation or chemotherapy treatments.

“The scope of Daniel’s fraud was breathtaking,” U.S. Attorney Andre Birotte Jr. said in a statement after Daniel was sentenced. “Daniel robbed victims of more than money — she also stole their hopes and dreams for a cure. Daniel is responsible for a shockingly cold-hearted fraud that has brought her a richly deserved federal prison sentence.”

Prosecutors sought a 27-year prison term, while Daniel’s attorney argued that nearly six years behind bars was more appropriate.

In all, authorities believe Daniel siphoned about $1.1 million from dozens of families between 2001 and 2004.

Some patients also endured additional pain and suffering because they took the herbal tonic provided by Daniel.

At trial, experts called by federal prosecutors said chemical tests of the product showed it contained beef extract flavoring and a sunscreen preservative, among other ingredients.

“I live with the guilt that I should have seen that none of what she was going through was helping her, but instead was hurting her,” Debra Harris wrote in a letter submitted to the court about her sister Barbara Davis, who was one of Daniel’s patients and who later died. Harris said Daniel’s patients were not only convinced they could be cured, but so were family members who “wanted to believe it just as bad.” Continue reading

WTF! McDonald’s Burger Bought In 1999 Looks Exactly The Same As The Day It Was First Cooked! (Video)

If you need another reason to kick the junk food habit this should do it. A Utah man has unearthed a McDonald’s hamburger he bought in 1999 – and the sandwich looks exactly the same as the day it was first flipped.

David Whipple kept the fast food meal for a month to show friends how the preservative-packed hamburger would keep its composure. But he forgot about it, finding it two years later in his coat pocket and then he decided to continue the bizarre experiment.

However, even he was shocked to see that the hamburger still looks the same a whopping 14 years later. ‘It wasn’t on purpose,’ Whipple told TV show ‘The Doctors,’ of his decision to keep the burger for such a long time.

‘I was showing some people how enzymes work and I thought a hamburger would be a good idea. And I used it for a month and then I forgot about it. It ended up in a paper sack in the original sack with the receipt in my coat pocket tossed in the back of my truck and it sat there for, I don’t know, two or three months.’ Continue reading

Detroit Woman Suffers Infection From Illegal Butt Injection

Keke Onpoint was interested in getting a bigger derriere. So the Detroit native signed up for “The Black Market” treatment at a hotel on April 5th, paying $1,100 for a butt injection from a stranger. Big mistake.

Rather than receiving a larger behind, Onpoint received septic shock, ending up in the hospital and nearly dying. It turns out the silicone Onpoint was injected with is the type not meant for human bodies, according to MyFoxDetroit.

“Immediately after I got the injections, I started lumping up really bad,” Onpoint told WXYZ.

“I was just fascinated about today’s fashion and the look of having a larger backside. It’s so popular and it’s such a phenomenon here.”

Onpoint was just another victim of back door butt injections, typically life-threatening and illegal. But the practice has proven to be profitable for those who organize the treatments. Memphis native Natasha Stewart, a.k.a “Pebblez Da Model,” cashed in $200 for every person she referred to a surgeon who offered the injections.

Medical workers aided injured people at the finish line of the 2013 Boston Marathon on Monday after an explosion.

EXPLOSIONS AT BOSTON MARATHON LEAVE INNOCENT PEOPLE SERIOUSLY INJURED

THE NYTIMES REPORTS: A series of explosions erupted near the finish line at the Boston Marathon on Monday. The Boston Police Department confirmed that they were looking into an explosion, but had no further comment. The Associated Press reported that the authorities were helping injured runners leave the scene and bloody spectators were being carried to a medical tent that was being used for runners.

The A.P. said that a loud explosion was heard on the north side of Boylston Street, near a photo bridge that marks the finish line. Another explosion was heard several seconds later.Local television showed ambulances at the scene. Pictures posted online showed several injured runners being attended to and smoke around the finish line.

The headquarters for the organizers of the marathon, one of the world’s oldest, was reportedly locked down while authorities investigate. Reporters inside the Copley Plaza Hotel, where the media center is and where many elite athletes are staying, were unable to leave.

The explosions went off more than four hours after the start of the men’s race, which meant that there were still several thousand runners yet to finish the race.

Big city authorities are typically on the highest levels of alert for events like a marathon, said Anthony Roman, a security expert.

“It is quite the counterterrorism effort,” said Mr. Roman, who runs Roman & Associates, a New York firm.

Man Uses Feces To Disguise Smell Of Weed In Stash House

It’s hard out here for marijuana kingpins. Police arrested a man who is suspected of running a marijuana growing and distribution ring and discovered he left buckets of human feces around the house to cover up the odor of the illegal plant.

Earlier in the week, narcotics Task Force agents made use of a search warrant and upon searching the home, police discovered it was housing a marijuana operation. While the officers could smell the massive amounts of weed throughout, cops were put off by the pungent odor of human crap. Cash and drug paraphernalia were also found during the sweep of the house.

The man arrested, Henry Ha Nguyen, was arrested and charged with two counts of possession of a controlled substance while in possession of a firearm, and one count of cultivation of marijuana. Nguyen grew more than 10 pounds of the drug within a 12-month period. Along with the drugs and paraphernelia, Nguyen’s two Sheppard-type security dogs.

Police also searched Hguyen’s actual residence. That’s where they discovered the cash, various types of drugs including meth, and a variety of assault rifles and guns. Hguyen is being held at the Jackson Adult Detention Center until a date for his court appearance is set.

This guy is doing the most with the buckets of crap laying around. Why didn’t he do what people did in college when they smoked weed in their dorms and didn’t want to get caught? All he had to do was pop multiple bags of popcorn and open the bags and sit them around the stash house. and who were the employees that hard up for money that they were willing to work in such sh**ty conditions?

Natasha Coe, Wisconsin Woman, Offers Kidney On Facebook, Promotes Minority Organ Donation (VIDEO)

Natasha Coe’s February 3, 2010 Facebook status was not a typical one. “I think I may donate one of my kidneys. If anyone knows someone on the waiting list for one, let me know,” it read. The response she received is the subject of a documentary called “Does Anybody Need a Kidney?” slated to run at a Milwaukee wellness fair on April 20.

According to the Office Of Minority Health, while 29 percent of the total candidates currently waiting for organ transplants are Black American, they comprised 14 percent of organ donors in 2012. The disparity is not only the reason why Coe, who is biracial, offered up her kidney to Facebook friends — one of whom was a high school classmate whose stepmom would ultimately receive the organ — but the reason why she decided to document it the forthcoming film.

“After reading an article and recent events that have happened, I think I may donate one of my kidneys,” Coe wrote on Facebook, referencing the death of her ex-boyfriend’s uncle from kidney failure, which she later explained is what prompted her to read up on the subject of organ donation and figure out what she could do to help, in an interview with the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel.

“They took my left kidney,” Coe told the paper, posing for a photo of a tattoo she got on the left side of her back featuring a kidney with a bright-eyed smile and a green ribbon marking the date of an operation: 4/3/12.

The recipient of the kind act was 60-year-old Debbie Will of Greenfield, Wisconsin who had suffered kidney failure after her second child was born in the 1970s. According to the Sentinel, Will’s sister donated a kidney to her in 1979, but it gave out in March 2008, causing her to have dialysis five days a week, for three to four hours at a time, to survive.

“I thought it was unusual someone would do something like this,” Will said, adding that Coe never wavered on her offer once the match was made.

Last year, Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg announced a way to boost the number of potential organ donors, introducing a feature that allows users to share their decision to be an organ donor on the website. Upon the feature’s debut, 6,000 people enrolled through 22 state registries, registries that typically see less than 400 sign up per day.

In Illinois, Secretary of State Jesse White announced Monday an appeal he’s making to African-American churches to help boost the level of organ donations in the state.

According to the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services organ donor website, organs are not matched by race or ethnicity and people of different races and ethnicity “frequently match one another.” Everyone will have a greater chance of receiving an organ, however, “if there are large numbers of donors from their racial/ethnic background,” the website says.

Louisville’s Kevin Ware breaks leg trying to block shot [Video]

According to the LA Times, Louisville guard Kevin Ware has a broken right leg after landing awkwardly when he tried to block a shot by Duke guard Tyler Thornton.

Replays showed that Ware’s lower right leg appears to snap as he lands from a lengthy leap to contest the shot. A video of the play is attached below (warning, images are graphic).

The injury occurred with 6:33 left in the first half. Thornton’s shot was good, cutting Louisville’s lead to 21-20 at the time. Louisville was leading at the half, 35-32.

The game was delayed almost 10 minutes as trainers wrapped Ware’s lower right leg, put him on a backboard and lifted him onto a stretcher to be taken off the court.

A few of Ware’s teammates fell to the floor at the sight of his leg, while others on the bench turned away from where he had fallen only feet from the sideline.

Louisville Coach Rick Pitino gathered the Cardinals near midcourt during the delay. Ware asked Pitino to bring his teammates over to him so he could have a word with them before he left for the hospital.

Former NFL quarterback Joe Theismann, who had a leg broken during a nationally televised game while playing for the Washington Redskins, sent a tweet to Ware. “Watching Duke/Louisville my heart goes out to Kevin Ware,” he said via Twitter.

$4M WORTH OF POT ON BEACH IN CALI

There’s just something in the water in California. Just a few weeks after $1 million worth of pot was found on a beach in California, now authorities have found $4M of pot on a beach further down the coast.

The SF Gate reports the $4M of pot was found on a beach in Santa Barbara County. Cops spied 50 plastic-wrapped bales of pot on a boat hidden in some bushes, worth roughly $4 million. The boat had been abandoned, but the sticky icky was about 2,000 pounds worth – or enough to make a lot of spring breakers pretty happy.

The $4M of pot on beach was discovered just weeks after a stash worth $1 million was found near Vandenberg Air Force Base, just a short drive up the coast.

New York City Woman Has Strange Addiction—Eating Deodorant

A 19-year-old New York woman has a particularly alarming addiction—eating deodorant. On an episode of TLC’sMy Strange Addiction, the woman—known only as “Nicole”—said that she eats a half a stick of deodorant everyday.  ”When I wake up in the morning, I want deodorant; after each meal, I eat deodorant; when I get stressed out, I eat deodorant; in the middle of the night when I wake up out of a sleep, I want deodorant,” she confessed.

Nicole says she began eating deodorant at the age of 4, but about two years ago, her little habit manifested as “full-blown addiction.” She’s even specific about flavor, preferring ”rich-tasting” brands to others.

Initially, she had no interest in speaking to the press about her addiction, but her health has suffered as a result. She’s experienced stomach cramps, and her doctors are worried. There’s aluminum in deodorant, and her doctor says consuming it can lead to dementia and even death.

Mike Dow, psychologist consultant for TLC, says that Nicole has a “process addiction.” Some are variations of impulse control disorders, while others “have elements of OCD,” Dow says. Dow adds that when people resort to eating “non-food materials,” the condition is known as ”pica.” Sometimes it’s the result of mineral deficiency, but it’s done to cope with anxiety.

Pica is more common in young children, as roughly 10 to 32 percent of children between the ages of 1 and 6 suffer from it. Pica is also Latin for “magpie,” i.e. the bird that will east just about anything.
